Non-HOBGI review: "They are a
small little country cafe and kind of specialize in country Bar-B-Que
and ribs and fried Catfish and the like. I believe they have a daily
"Plate Lunch Special" at lunch. There has been a cafe in that location
for around 30 years and has changed names several times through the
years." |

Blue Goose
Restaurant
16 South Main Street
East Granby, CT

Submitted by Dan RichThis
cozy restaurant is located inside a 200 year old farm-house. The
building was converted into East Granby's Post Office in the 1930's. For
the last 40 years, it has been the home of six different restaurants,
the last 16 as The Blue Goose. There are Blue Goose prints on the walls
and stuffed Blue Gooses abound.
Serving chicken, steak and seafood dishes, entrees run in the $14-$20
range. We ordered broiled salmon ($14.99) off of the regular dinner menu
and two choices from among the 5 specials - fresh catfish with a
cornmeal crust topped with bacon and pine nuts ($13.99) and a shrimp
boat ($12.99). The entrees were of average quality, but the clear winner
was the shrimp boat, which consisted of 9 very large, very fresh fried
shrimp served with a zippy high-octane cocktail sauce. The accompanying
mashed potatoes and "freedom fries" were average, and the steamed
vegetables (sliced squash, pea pods, tomatoes and broccoli) weren't much
better. There were a few bumps along the service road; a much-too-long
wait for waitress service (after we were seated for fifteen minutes, the
maitre d' embarrassingly asked us if anyone had helped us yet), a
children's menu was never even offered (a curious move considering we
had a child with us), and our server charged us for a Sprite we never
ordered. |

From the March 1995 HARTFORD PONDERINGS
- "Our February 23rd luncheon meeting at the Blue
Goose Restaurant in Stratford was quite disappointing in
several respects. The food left much to be desired and
the service was poor, so we decided that, in spite of the
unique name, we would not go back there again." |

review: Can anyone recommend a reasonably up-market
eatery in Bristol? The kind of place where smart dress is
required? ... I'm looking for somewhere in the
Centre/Clifton/Redland area. [Snip] How about "The
Blue Goose" on Gloucester Road, Horfield side of
Bishopton. It used to be excellent, though got a bit
crowded after being spotted by the Grauniad and Egon
Ronay. Make sure you book. -- Garry |

Recently, while having lunch in a Chicago
pub, I noticed a sign for Honkers Ale. Since I never
tasted a beer I couldn't drink, I decided to take a chance on a Honkers.
Let me tell you, one led to two and that led to a third and so on. It
was one of the better beers/ales I've ever tasted in my long career of
beer drinking. So, if you happen to visit the windy city, try a
"Honkers." By Fred Nintzel, PMLG,

Review by Phillip E. Sbar,
PMLG, etc., Nov. 11, 2000: "Last night Sharon &
I and a couple of cousins went to the Blue Goose Inn to
catch the music. We arrived about 10:20 PM, well after
dinner time and most of the way through the first set.
The joint was jumping. In this attractive,
piney-paneled bar and restaurant, a very good blues band
kept everyone happy. Some were dancing. There were lots
of folks eating -- bar snacks, lake perch, pizza,
burgers, steaks, etc.
The service was fast, efficient, & friendly. We
saw people come in, pay the well-worth-it $2.00 cover,
have dinner, listen to a few numbers, raise a glass or
two, and leave. It was an eclectic crowd. Young folks to
golden agers. Cowboy boots to Nikes. Blue jeans, chinos,
Bermuda shorts, and baggy pants. All enjoyed themselves.
The Blue Goose flies high here. It is shown in a banner
behind the bandstand and in a neon trophy case. Blue
goose footprints lead one from the parking lot to the
door. The t-shirt of a Blue Goose playing a saxophone is
a must-have.
I, of course, paid with my Platinum Blue Goose Visa
Card. The boss had never heard of HOBGI (even with
Detroit Puddle right there). If you're ever in the
Greater Detroit area, go to the Blue Goose Inn!" |

If you are looking for a place to go out for a
good bite of Tex-Mex that will let you in the door wearing boots and
jeans or flip flops & your halter top the Blue Goose is your venue. It's
fun atmosphere that suggests that something wild or exciting might
happen at any second. Perhaps it's the line of motorcycles that always
seem to be parked outside or it's the rows of beer bottle cases holding
up one of the bars. Or maybe it's roar of juke box and lively
conversation spilling out of the open-air bar and dining areas. The food is good solid Tex-Mex fare, the standard combination plates and
some wonderful specialties of the house. A full bar awaits those who
dare to imbibe. Entrées are all very moderately priced $8-12.
It's a great lunch break from the trials and tribulations of the office
and fantastic location for that post work day attitude adjustment. So,
whether with out of town guests or that special some one it's time to
relax with a margarita and a great Mexican dish at The Blue Goose!

It’s a long cab ride from the strangely deserted mean streets of
downtown Dallas to the Blue Goose Cantina - but worth it. As you can see
from the pictures, it looks like any biker on his or her way to Sturgis
would feel comfortable stopping here for an oil change, and inside, the
concrete floor serves as a cold wake-up to anyone unfamiliar with the
consequences of too many of the establishment’s award-winning
Margaritas.
Enchiladas, taco salads, burritos – they have them all. But Margaritas
are what the locals come for – green, frosty, salty Margaritas.
Blue Geese tend to be risk-averse; consequently, we all went fairly
light on the hot sauce, and did not stray too far from the traditional
Mexican dishes. Did I mention the Margaritas? Served in beer steins
(sassy!), this place was Blue Goose with attitude!

Blue Goose Riders |
From their website: The
Blue Goose Riders
(BGR) started in October
1997 when Marc Marcom, Bob White, Bob Speer, Charlie Stevens and Matt
Mortimer decided to organize a weekly hangout for sportbike riders in
Addison, Texas. The Blue Goose Cantina was the obvious place as Matt was
the restaurant manager. As the weather warmed up, more bikes showed up and the Blue Goose Riders
organized to unite bike enthusiasts in North Texas. Dedicated to the
enjoyment of two-wheel motor sports – BGR is a sportbike association,
welcoming all genres of riders including cruisers, dirt bikes and
collectible enthusiasts.
BGR promotes safe and responsible practices and always recommends riding
the pace for group rides. BGR is not organized as a riding club or does
it have any official affiliation with the Blue Goose Restaurant and is
in no way affiliated, liable nor responsible for any activities, group
rides or occurrences arranged by individuals through it's membership.
It's all about the ride – the ride of life, friendships, memories and
discovering the road less traveled. |

The Legend of the Old Blue Goose |
From their website: Huddie "Leadbelly"
Ledbetter is considered to be an icon of early blues, not only in the
Shreveport area, but all over the world. However, many years before
Leadbelly was recorded, other blues artists from the Shreveport area had
already made records and they all played music on the streets in a small
area of town, which today is officially identified as Wilson Alley, but
was earlier known as Old Blue Goose. In 1929, a teenager named Jesse
Thomas recorded a song called "Blue Goose Blues"... |
